Thieves sniffed out by security officers in KZN
Security officers arrested a number of thieves on the KZN South Coast this month.
An intruder who broke into a home in Umtentweni, KZN, was chased down and arrested yesterday.
Lazer 911 Control Centre received a call for assistance from a non-client on a Tweni CPF group, reporting a break-in, and reaction officer Christian Cele responded.
As Cele approached the property, the intruder attempted to flee. But, Cele gave chase.
He was joined by members of the local CPF and the thief was apprehended and handed over to police.
In a separate incident, Lazer 911 Control Centre received a panic activation from a client in Rathbonville Road in Oslo Beach.
The security company’s Basil Lanka says their client informed them that the suspect stole cash from the client’s vehicle.
“Lazer reaction officer Winston Lemon was immediately dispatched to the client’s premises. CCTV footage was viewed by Lemon and the suspect was located and held in custody until SAPS arrived,” he says.
The thief was handed over to police.
On May 20, the security company also received a call for assistance at an estate in Oslo Beach and reaction units were dispatched.
“The client informed our controllers of a man stripping copper pipes and a sink from one of the resident’s properties,” says Lanka.
Reaction officer Rajesh Baburan gave chase and caught the suspect in nearby bushes, with assistance from the resident’s neighbours.
The thief was handed over to police.
