Thembisa CIT: 2 injured, vehicles and firearm recovered

The driver of a G4S cash van and one of the alleged robbers sustained injuries after a cash-in-transit robbery.

Two of the vehicles used during a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery in Liliba Section of Thembisa, this morning, have been recovered. The driver of the G4S van and a suspect were injured after a Mercedes-Benz crashed into the cash truck.

They were taken to a nearby hospital for medical assessment and treatment.

The Thembisan reported that according to information they received, the robbery occurred at around 07:40. The Mercedes-Benz subsequently burst into flames.

The area surrounding the scene was cordoned off to facilitate further investigations, and a SAPS helicopter was deployed to aid in the search of the suspects who escaped the scene.

One of the vehicles used during the robbery was found in the garage of a house on Ghana Street, Welamlambo in Thembisa.

The other vehicle was found abandoned on the side of a nearby road.

Inside one of the vehicles, officers found a Glock 9mm pistol with ammunition and one magazine.

No further arrests have been made and officers are still actively searching for the suspects.
