Stage 2 load-shedding to hit again this afternoon

The breakdown of generation units at several power stations has caused Eskom to implement load-shedding today.

Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented today between 16:00 and 24:00. This will be repeated at the same time tomorrow afternoon.

“The breakdowns of a generation unit each at Duvha, Kendal and Kriel power stations during the last 24 hours, as well as the delays in returning units to service at Arnot, Kusile and Tutuka power stations have put a severe strain on the power generation system,” Eskom said in a media statement earlier today.

The power utility said if enough generation units can be returned to service within the next 24 hours, there is a possibility that load-shedding can be avoided tomorrow afternoon.

“We currently have 4 550MW on planned maintenance, while another 14 637MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.”
