Slimsy Squash recalled over gas formation inside product

Consumers are urged to return a popular beverage to stores after more than 17 000 units were recalled over safety and health concerns.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has alerted consumers to a recall of certain batches of Slimsy Pomegranate Squash Concentrate following a notification from the supplier, Dynamic Brands Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd, reports The Witness.

The recall affects the 6% Slimsy Pomegranate Squash Concentrate in one-litre bottles with a best-before date of October 14, 2026.

The product was sold between January 23 and March 23 this year and distributed in Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Free State and KZN.

In total, 2 894 cases, amounting to 17 364 units, were released to the market.

According to the NCC, the recall was issued after some bottles were found to be blown or swollen due to gas formation inside the product.

This could cause bottles to rupture and potentially result in physical injury. The supplier also warned that consuming the product could lead to foodborne illness.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are urged not to consume it and to return it to the store where it was bought to receive a full refund.

The NCC calls on retailers to immediately remove the affected products from shelves to prevent potential consumer harm.

“The NCC will continue to monitor the recall process to ensure full compliance with the Consumer Protection Act,” said the commission in a statement.

The commission said it will continue to monitor the recall process to ensure compliance with the Consumer Protection Act.
