Sentencing of Alexandra learner’s murderer postponed

Schoolboy murderer Peter Mphulo Magolego is due to again appear in court on April 30 for sentencing.

The sentencing of convicted murderer Peter Mphulo Magolego, the man who shot dead Sandtonview High School learner Thando Khumalo, was yesterday postponed to April 30 in the Alexandra Regional Court.

Magolego was due to be sentenced yesterday, following his guilty plea on April 16.

The matter was postponed to allow the murderer to attend to another matter in a different court.

Due to his guilty plea, the court convicted Magolego and ordered that he be kept in custody pending his sentencing.

The case has dragged on for three years as the South Gauteng High Court had to decide whether it could be heard in its jurisdiction or should be referred back to the Alexandra Regional Court for trial.

The South Gauteng High Court finally ruled that the case be heard in the Alexandra Regional Court and the case was put back on the roll. Magolego was back in court on April 16 and pleaded guilty to murder after being charged.

Thando (20) was fatally shot at close range after a chase following a road rage incident on August 28, 2022.

The Grade 11 learner was returning to his home in Tsutsumani Village early in the morning from a night out with six of his friends when he met his tragic death on the corner of 12th Avenue and Hofmeyr Street.

Magolego, who is a well-known socialite in Alexandra, argued with the boys after a driving incident and pulled out a gun. The boys abandoned their car and bolted.

Magolego, with a gun in hand, gave chase and caught up with Thando. He fatally shot him in the back of the head. Another boy was shot in the leg.
