Security guard critically injured in Durban shooting

A man believed to be in his 30s suffered a gunshot wound to the head as robbers allegedly pounced on a cash-in-transit van.

A security guard is in a critical condition after an alleged cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery on Rick Turner Road, Durban, this morning.

The guard, believed to be in 30s, sustained a gunshot wound to the head during the incident.

Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson says they responded to the incident just after 11:20.

“Paramedics received numerous calls of a shooting incident which had occurred in an alleged armed robbery involving a CIT van on Rick Turner Road. On arrival, paramedics found a male believed to be in his 30s who had sustained critical injuries as a result of a gunshot wound to his head. He was stabilised on scene and rushed to a nearby hospital,” he adds.

Jamieson says the events leading up to the shooting are not clear at this stage.

It is believed the guard was robbed before the suspects managed to flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
