Robber with toy gun shot in failed eMalahleni supermarket robbery

An attempted robbery at a supermarket took a surprising turn when a security guard shot one of the robbers, who was armed with a toy gun.

A robbery at Safarie Supermarket in eMalahleni took a turn for the worse last night when a security guard caught the robbers by surprise.

According to Witbank News, a security guard who stopped to get something at the cafe shot one of the robbers in the leg.

A source told the newspaper that he was about to enter the popular supermarket when the robbers ushered him in and told him they were busy.

“One of the robbers pointed a gun at me. Instinctively, I reached for my gun and shot,” the security guard said.

The robber, who was later found to have been armed with a toy gun, fled into the tavern next door to hide. Meanwhile, his accomplices made a dash for it and fled the scene.

An ambulance was called, and the injured man was taken to the hospital.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said he got the fright of his life when he saw three men scatter and the one with the toy gun run into the tavern. “I just saw guns and heard shots. A bullet just missed me,” the man said.
