Randfontein CIT heist: Four arrested, rifles and getaway vehicles seized

Four suspects have been arrested near Krugersdorp following an intelligence-driven operation linked to the R28 cash-in-transit heist.

Police have arrested four suspects in Kagiso, south of Krugersdorp, in connection with a cash-in-transit heist that took place on Wednesday on the R28 near Ext 11 in Mohlakeng, Randfontein.

Randfontein Herald reports that according to police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, men armed with automatic rifles rammed the cash van. They detonated explosives to access the contents inside at about 16:40. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken, and the suspects fled the scene in at least two vehicles.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities have indicated that up to 12 individuals may have been involved in the operation, and a broader manhunt remains underway.

Acting on intelligence received, police conducted a tactical operation in Kagiso yesterday and arrested the four suspects.

Items recovered at the scene of the arrest include two white vehicles – a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota C-HR – two rifles, two magazines and ammunition.

He said the arrests were the result of a collaborative effort between crime intelligence, the CIT Team, the West Rand Tactical Response Team (TRT), and Police Emergency Services (PES) Flexi, among others.

All suspects will appear before the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court today on charges linked to the robbery.
