Police seek information on Soweto businessman’s murder

Police are on the lookout for suspects involved in the shooting and killing in Witpoortjie, but urge anyone with information to come forward.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo has confirmed that police are seeking suspects involved in the fatal shooting of a businessman from Soweto.

The 70-year-old victim, believed to be the owner of Moses Fruit and Veg on Impala Road, was shot and killed at the corner of Corlett Avenue and Ham Street in Witpoortjie on July 27 at about 18:30.

According to a statement sent to the Roodepoort Record, police responded to information about a shooting incident and found the victim with gunshot wounds inside an Isuzu bakkie. He was declared dead at the scene.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was shot by three males driving a white Mercedes-Benz. It is also reported that the suspects took a black bag from the victim before fleeing the scene,” the statement read.

A murder and armed robbery case has been opened. Masondo urges anyone with information that can assist the investigation to contact their nearest police station or to call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
