Police investigate murder and attempted murder after Midrand shooting
A 37-year-old woman was shot dead in Ivory Park in a suspected taxi-related hit, while a neighbour was also injured in the attack.
A 37-year-old woman from Ivory Park in Midrand was shot and killed in a suspected hit on Thursday.
Midrand Reporter reports this happened in Makhado Street in Ivory Park Ext 2, at around 08:30, not far from the Ivory Park Taxi Rank.
The mother of three had allegedly inherited her late parents’ taxi business, sparking concerns that the hit could be related to taxi violence.
Scene details
Ekurhuleni police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said that, upon arrival at the scene, police found one female victim lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
“The victim was certified as deceased by EMS personnel. They also found another female, 52 years old, who was bleeding from the lower body.”
Sekgobela said it is believed that the injured woman is a neighbour of the deceased, and they were together at the time of the attack.
“They were speaking when they suddenly heard gunshots. The 52-year-old allegedly collapsed without seeing anything. After regaining consciousness, she saw the deceased lying on the ground. She then realised that she was also shot in the lower body.”
Investigation underway
Sekgobela said no arrests have been made yet and police are investigating a murder and attempted murder case.
The suspects are unknown and police are appealing to anyone who might have information to come forward.
Sekgobela did not respond to questions about whether authorities had established a motive for the hit, the number of suspects involved, or whether they were driving or fled the scene on foot.
