Pig farm double murder: Bail application to happen in Polokwane

Three men stand accused of murdering Mariah Makgato (47) and Lucia Ndlovu (34) on August 17, and feeding them to pigs.

The murder case against Onverwaght farm owner Zachariah Olivier (60) and his two employees, Adriaan de Wet (19) and William Musoro (45), has been postponed again in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court.

Olivier, De Wet, and Musoro were expected to apply for bail in front of a full courtroom, but the court referred their case to the Polokwane Regional Court.

They will remain in custody until October 2 when they are due to appear again.

The trio stands accused of murdering Mariah Makgato (47) and Lucia Ndlovu (34) on August 17 and allegedly feeding them to pigs.

The women’s bodies were discovered after police were alerted to Makgato’s disappearance following her visit to the farm on the same day.

They were accompanied by a 47-year-old foreign national man who was also shot and hospitalised.

It is alleged the trio trespassed on the farm to collect discarded food with other community members.

Shots were fired at the group, resulting in the deaths of Makgato and Ndlovu.

The accused face charges of two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and defeating the ends of justice, while Musoro also faces a charge of contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.
