Phala Phala case: 3 appear in Limpopo court

The case relating to the theft of around $580 000 (about R10m) from President Cyril Ramaphosa's game farm continued today.

The case against three people accused of stealing millions from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala game farm, near Bela-Bela, has been postponed.

Imanuwela David, along with siblings Froliana and David Joseph, appeared in the Modimolle Regional Court today.

They face charges of housebreaking and theft, while David faces an additional charge of money laundering.

The case was postponed to November 26 in the same court for a pretrial conference by Magistrate Peter Manthatha.

The case relates to the theft of around $580 000 (about R10m) from the game farm on February 9, 2020. David remains in custody, while the Josephs are out on bail.

As in their previous court appearances, Froliana Joseph kept her face covered during today’s proceedings.

The case gained international attention after a domestic worker allegedly found millions of rands’ worth of US dollars hidden inside a couch on the game farm.

Ramaphosa denied any wrongdoing, stating that the amount was a deposit paid by a Sudanese buyer for buffaloes.
