Outpouring of support for KZN security officer who survived headshot

Amanzimtoti community members and charity children rally to fund a recovery hamper for a brave response officer recovering in hospital after an ambush.

An Amanzimtoti security officer who drove himself to hospital after being shot in the head during an ambush has received an outpouring of community support as he begins his recovery, reports South Coast Sun.

Xolise Jebe, an ET Rapid Response officer, was targeted last week Monday (July 6) as he arrived at a property in Illovo following an alarm activation.

Tony Lokker of ET Rapid Response explained that multiple suspects opened fire on Jebe’s vehicle the moment he arrived on the scene. Despite sustaining a gunshot wound to the side of his head, Jebe managed to contact emergency services and pilot his vehicle to a nearby hospital.

“It is with great pleasure that we can report that Xolise is doing well and that all indications are that he will make a full recovery,” said Lokker.

Appreciating his bravery and dedication, local residents rallied together to create a substantial ‘get well soon’ hamper.

The gift was delivered to the security firm’s offices on July 9 before Jebe’s colleagues transported it to Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital.

Among the contributors were children from the Operation Bobbi Bear charity, who eagerly searched their own cupboards to donate items as soon as they heard about the shooting.

Jebe’s family expressed their deep appreciation for the community’s kindness.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Amanzimtoti community, the staff at ET and Operation Bobbi Bear for your overwhelming love, support, prayers and speedy recovery messages, as well as the generous hamper contributions. Knowing that so many people are standing with us and keeping Xolise in their thoughts and prayers means more than words can express,” the family said.
