No sign of elephant roaming outside Kruger National Park
It is suspected that an elephant spotted near Hazyview yesterday could have returned to the Kruger National Park by itself.
An elephant that was spotted on the R536 outside Mkhuhlu yesterday morning, is suspected to have gone back to the Kruger National Park.
Pictures and videos of the elephant surfaced on various social platforms when it was spotted on the road just after 06:00.
While the spokesperson of Kruger National Park, Ike Phaahla, confirmed authorities were following up on returning it to the park, this publication was made aware it was up to the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) to handle the matter.
The MTPA spokesperson, Simphiwe Shungube, said MTPA officials on the ground were unable to find the elephant in and around the area it was spotted.
“Our team has been on the ground all day working with that of the Kruger National Park. The elephant has not been found by our officals. We suspect that it could have gone back into the park by itself. We will continue to monitor the situation and report any new developments,” Shungube said.
