Mpumalanga girl (11) murdered: Suspect arrested

Hendrina residents have welcomed yesterday’s arrest of a man alleged to have raped and murdered a young girl.

The man suspected of raping and brutally killing 11-year-old Lwandle Siphesihle Masuku has been arrested after being on the run for nearly two weeks.

The Breyton police apprehended him yesterday.

On August 25, Masuku’s family and the police found her body near the suspect’s shack, with multiple stab wounds. Police suspect that the girl was also raped.

Before the gruesome discovery, Masuku’s mother had reported her missing and informed the Hendrina police that her sister’s boyfriend might have information about her daughter’s disappearance.

When police visited the suspect’s home on a farm in Hendrina, they found bloodstains, and about 100m away, they discovered Masuku’s body.

Acting Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli says at the time of the suspect’s arrest, he was out on R5 000 bail for allegedly murdering a 31-year-old man in February.
