Missing Durban man found dead: Community calls for special probe

A man from Wentworth in Durban Jerard Dunn has been found dead in The Bluff area after being missing for nine days.

The discovery was made after an intensive search by local authorities and community members.

Dunn’s decomposed body was found in a bush in the Brighton Beach area. The police have yet to release a detailed report regarding the cause of his death, leaving several unanswered questions.

Dawn Gounden, spokesperson for Renegades Search and Rescue, described the impact of Dunn’s disappearance on the Wentworth community.

“Jerard’s disappearance deeply affected his family and friends, who were desperately searching for him and seeking answers about his whereabouts,” Gounden said.

Dunn was known for his kind nature and dedication to helping others, which only heightened the community’s distress during his absence.

“The uncertainty surrounding his disappearance left his friends and family in a state of limbo, desperately hoping for any news that might shed light on his situation,” Gounden added.

The news of Dunn’s disappearance was spread widely across social media platforms, with local residents praying for his safe return.

According to a response officer for Security Force K9 unit, Richard Meth, their members, who were conducting routine patrols, received information about a body at the intersection of Nerissa and Highbury Roads. The spokesperson confirmed that the circumstances surrounding Dunn’s death are under active investigation by the police.

Residents have expressed their anger on Facebook, calling for the police to launch a special probe into Dunn’s killing.

Donovan Peters posted, “Why are too many of our coloured young men dying or being killed? Something is purposefully happening; we need to wake up and stand up against this.”

Another resident said, “He touched the lives of so many.”

Marceline Adams said, “So many murders in Wentworth, and so much blood on our streets.”

Tiffany Monica Dayna Gabriel said, “Lord have mercy. What is really going on?”

Mary-ann Gabriel said, “This is heartbreaking. I knew him since he was still small and ‘conducting’ in the taxis. Shame, may his soul rest in God’s glory.”
