Man wanted in connection with murder wounded in shoot-out with police in KZN

A murder suspect arrested following a shoot-out with police will appear in court when he is physically fit.

A foreign national who was wanted for a murder that he allegedly committed in Esikhaleni, in northern KZN, in August 2023 is in hospital under police guard after he was shot during a shoot-out with police in Madlankala in Esikhaleni early yesterday morning.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says police gathered intelligence that the suspect was hiding at a residence in Esikhaleni. When police entered his residence, the 52-year-old suspect fired several shots at them.

“Police retaliated in attempts to neutralise the danger and during the shoot-out, the suspect was shot and wounded. No police officer was injured during the shoot-out. The suspect was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition,” says Netshiunda.

Netshiunda says the suspect, when physically fit, will appear in court to face charges of murder, attempted murder of police officers and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
