Man to appear in court for human trafficking in Western Cape

Police arrested a man in Oudtshoorn for allegedly luring a victim from Egypt, confiscating his documents and forcing him to work without pay.

A man is expected to appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate’s Court today after being arrested for trafficking in persons, reports the George Herald.

The arrest was made by the George-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation team (Hawks) yesterday after they received information about a possible victim of trafficking in Oudtshoorn.

Meticulous investigation brought to light that the victim was lured from Egypt to South Africa on a promise of employment by the 27-year-old man.

When he arrived in South Africa, his travel documents were confiscated by the suspect and he allegedly had to work without getting paid.

It is alleged that he was also assaulted.

The arrest was executed after a warrant of arrest was issued.
