Man murdered in Limpopo tavern: 4 arrested

Four people are due to appear in court today following a man’s murder during an alleged mob justice attack.

A female tavern owner and three male accomplices will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo today in connection with the murder and assault of two men.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a mob justice incident took place at a tavern in Ga-Mothiba village in Nobody outside Mankweng on Sunday, where a man in his 20s was declared dead on the scene.

“The deceased was found [inside the tavern] with multiple injuries, while the other victim sustained injuries and was transported to hospital.”

Ledwaba says preliminary investigations revealed that the two victims entered the tavern after it was closed and they were dragged inside. They were then allegedly assaulted by the suspects, who used various objects.

“The motive for the incident is unknown and a case of murder and assault has been opened.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the swift arrest of the suspects and warns members of the community against taking the law into their own hands.
