Man gunned down in his car at Bedfordview intersection

Police are investigating after a shooter opened fire on a motorist in peak-hour traffic before fleeing with an accomplice.

Bedfordview police have opened a murder case after a man was shot and killed at the intersection of Van Buuren and Van der Linde roads in Bedfordview, Ekurhuleni, yesterday at around 16:00.

Bedfordview and Edenvale News reports that Sergeant Lillian Modiga, the communication liaison officer for the Bedfordview SAPS, says eyewitnesses reported that a silver-grey VW Polo, carrying two occupants, stopped behind the victim’s white Toyota Quest at a red light.

“When the traffic light turned green, they pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle,” says Modiga.

“The rear passenger exited and fired several shots before the two fled.”

Paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.

Officers recovered 18 spent cartridge cases and found a firearm with 15 rounds of live ammunition inside the victim’s vehicle.

Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
