A key stat has shown why Malcolm Marx is invaluable for the world champion Springboks, and widely considered the best hooker on the planet.

One of the original members of the Bomb Squad that helped South Africa win the 2019 World Cup, Marx is as good as any specialist fetcher over the ball, and became the top try-scorer among forwards in Bok history in 2023 – scoring in a record win against the All Blacks at Twickenham to take his tally to 17.

He wrestled the No 2 jumper away from Bongi Mbonambi last year, but the 29-year-old was forced to leave the Boks’ World Cup-winning squad after only one game in France after hurting his knee at training.
