Lion and zebra poached at Limpopo’s Letaba Ranch

An investigation has been launched into the illegal poaching of wildlife at a protected park.

Lulekani police in the Mopani District in Limpopo are looking for poachers who killed two lions and a zebra.

The animals were poached in the Genoeg Camp inside the Letaba Ranch at midnight on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says an employee was asleep on the premises when he heard a commotion involving lions and hyenas not far from the camp.

“The employee went to investigate when he got up early that morning. While walking, he discovered two dead lions and a dead zebra caught in a snare,” he adds.

A hyena was also trapped but was still alive.

Anyone with information that can assist police with the investigation is urged to contact investigating officer Eric Nkuna on 082 657 7297 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or visit their closest police station.
