Limpopo police arrest 5 men for mob justice attack
Five men from the community of Nobody Thakgalang are due to appear in court for the murder of a suspected thief.
Police in Mankweng have arrested five men following an apparent mob justice murder in Nobody Thakgalang in the early hours of Tuesday, reports the Review Online.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says police responded to a complaint about a suspect apprehended by community members after breaking into a house.
“Upon arrival at the scene, police found a 29-year-old male seated outside a house. He was wearing wet clothes, unable to speak, and had visible injuries on his hands and forehead,” says Ledwaba.
Emergency medical services were summoned and later certified the victim dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations reveal the deceased was accused of a previous housebreaking in the area.
“A group of community members tracked him to Polokwane town, brought him back to Nobody Thakgalang, and assaulted him with a fan belt and stones while questioning him about stolen property,” adds Ledwaba.
Following investigations, five male suspects aged between 23 and 54 were arrested.
They are expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on a charge of murder.
