Limpopo farmer charged with attempted murder and resisting arrest

A man sustained multiple injuries to his leg after allegedly being knocked over during an altercation with a farmer he had done work for.

A 55-year-old man appeared in Limpopo’s Mokopane Magistrate’s Court yesterday, on charges of attempted murder and resisting arrest.

The Amatava farmer, David Maree, was arrested on Tuesday after an argument broke out between him and the complainant.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s regional spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, says the complainant and his wife went to Maree’s homestead to collect payment for a job they had done for him.

Maree hired the complainant to build a one-room house for R4 500 but was allegedly only paid R600 for the work.

Malabi-Dzhangi says an argument ensued between the complainant and Maree.

“Maree [allegedly] assaulted the complainant with an open hand, headed towards the complainant’s car and knocked him over. The complainant sustained multiple injuries [to] his leg and was taken to the hospital,” she says.

Maree will remain in custody until March 20 when he will appear in court for his bail hearing.
