KZN: MEC Bheki Ntuli orders authorities to “beef up” security on bridges to curb rock-throwing incidents
Recent reports of rock-throwing have prompted MEC Bheki Ntuli to reactive the task team that was previously assembled to address this issue.
In a concerted effort to curb alarming incidents of rock-throwing on bridges in KwaZulu-Natal, MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Bheki Ntuli has called for law enforcement agencies, including the police and RTI, to beef up patrols along key routes and bridges, Ladysmith Gazette reports.
These interventions are being implemented following numerous reports of rocks and bricks being thrown at vehicles from overhead bridges.
This criminal act has resulted in fatalities and unnecessary havoc on the roads.

Assembled by the Department of Transport, police, eThekwini metro and SANRAL, the focus of the joint task team was to monitor freeways, mainly the N3 and N2.
Through this joint effort, suspects were arrested and sentenced in court.
The plan has now been reactivated as part of the rolling Festive Season Integrated Safety Plan.
