Kidnapping victims found, stolen vehicle recovered in Pretoria West

A case of theft, robbery and kidnapping has been opened following the abduction of five people in Hammanskraal.

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) was led to four people who had been kidnapped during a hijacking when a tracking company helped them find the stolen vehicle.

On Monday, metro police officers on patrol in Hammanskraal were alerted about a white Kia that had recently been stolen.

The TMPD said with the aid of a tracking company, the vehicle was located in Pretoria West in an area known as Zama Zama.

When officers recovered the car, they were also led to four people who had been kidnapped during the hijacking.

“The vehicle was abandoned with the keys inside. While the officers were checking out the vehicle, witnesses came forward and informed them that there were victims who were left close to the vehicle.

“The officers proceeded to the said location of the victims. They found two men and two women who explained to them that they were abducted in Hammanskraal by eight [people] who came and robbed their place of employment and kidnapped their boss, who later escaped,” says TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

A case of theft, robbery and kidnapping has been opened at the SAPS.

The chief of police, Commissioner YCR Faro, says she appreciates the working relationship between the TMPD and other law enforcement agencies and says that these collaborations will help fight crime in the capital city.

Members of the public who have any information regarding the case are urged to contact the SAPS or the TMPD on 012 358 7095/7096.
