Kempton armed robbery: 2 injured, 19 suspects at large

Police are on the hunt for 19 suspects after a robbery gone wrong in Kempton Park West, where a Community Policing Forum patroller and a tenant were shot.

Norkem Park police are investigating a case of armed robbery and attempted murder following a shooting incident in Kempton Park West on Thursday.

Kempton Express reports that it is alleged that a group of about 20 suspects committed a robbery in the area.

“During the incident, a Community Policing Forum patroller who responded to the scene was shot. The patroller was immediately transported to hospital for medical treatment and remains under medical care,” said Norkem Park police spokesperson Sergeant DP Mkhondo.

A second victim, a tenant at the premises, was also shot and sustained injuries. The victim received medical treatment and is reported to be in a stable condition.

“Police responded swiftly, and through coordinated efforts, one suspect was apprehended in Chloorkop, Ekurhuleni, shortly after the incident.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court on charges related to armed robbery and attempted murder,” said Mkhondo.

Investigations are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining suspects.

The Station Commander of Norkem Park Police Station, Colonel Nelly Maunatlala, strongly condemned the suspects’ violent actions and commended the swift response by police members and community stakeholders.

Community members are urged to remain vigilant and to report any information that may assist with the investigation.
