Gunmen flee after high-speed chase and shoot-out in Rosebank

No fatalities were reported in a high-octane shoot-out between security companies and gunmen driving a ‘wanted’ vehicle.

Vision Tactical security was forced to make a call for backup at approximately 11:30 today following a shoot-out with gunmen driving a wanted Silver Audi.

The Audi fled down Jan Smuts Avenue and the security company lost sight of it in the Randburg CBD.

SCP Security recovered the vehicle, which was abandoned at the Randburg Taxi rank, at about 12:00. The suspects had fled.

According to preliminary reports, the vehicle had tested as ‘positively wanted’ at a license plate recognition test.

When Vision Tactical members approached the vehicle, the occupants opened fire with AK47s, narrowly missing members while driving through the exchange of gunfire.

Vision Tactical updated its social media pages with a statement reporting on the high-speed pursuit of the shooters, who are still at large.

“We are relieved to report that all our team members are safe and unharmed,” the social media update read. “During the chase, the [gunmen] opened fire on our members with rifles. Together with law enforcement, we are actively searching for those involved.

“This incident highlights the ongoing risks our teams face to ensure public safety,” the statement concluded.

Rosebank Killarney Gazette contacted district police spokesperson Captain Jeff Phora for more information, which will be provided once received.
