Former Durban metro cop pleads guilty to wife’s murder

According to a court indictment, a former metro officer who admitted to killing his wife allegedly tried to slit his wrists and stab himself in the chest.

Former Durban metro police officer Qiniso Sishi has pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife, Thandokuhle Mkhize, whom he stabbed to death last year, reports The Witness.

The case was transferred to the Durban High Court in November after Sishi was served with an indictment.

The matter was adjourned to April 17 for sentencing arguments.

Mkhize was stabbed multiple times in the early hours of July 28 at the couple’s home in Woodlands, south of Durban.

According to the indictment, the couple’s relationship was acrimonious and marked by repeated incidents of aggression and violence.

On the evening of July 28, Mkhize and her daughter returned home after attending the daughter’s matric dance.

They were alone at the house and waiting for Sishi, who was out socialising with friends at a local tavern.

Shortly before midnight, Sishi returned home, and an argument broke out between the couple.

During the altercation, Sishi stabbed Mkhize multiple times in the chest and abdomen with a knife, according to the indictment.

Mkhize succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

A post-mortem examination found fatal stab wounds to the heart, stomach and inferior vena cava (the body’s largest vein). The cause of death was recorded as incised wounds to the chest and abdomen.

After the attack, Sishi allegedly inflicted self-injuries by slitting his wrists and stabbing himself in the chest.
