Flying squad intercepts hijacked vehicle heading to Zimbabwe border

Another stolen vehicle that was about to be smuggled out of the country was retrieved by law enforcement officers.

The Waterberg and Capricorn District flying squad teams apprehended a 54-year-old man for possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle along the N1 North between Kranskop and Nyl plazas on Sunday.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, officers were on patrol when they saw a suspicious white Toyota Fortuner and approached the vehicle.

The driver was alone in the car.

“Upon a preliminary investigation, it was established that the vehicle was reported stolen in Garsfontein, Gauteng, this month,” says Ledwaba.

He says the vehicle was purposed to be smuggled through the Beit Bridge border to Zimbabwe.

Ledwaba adds that the suspect was immediately arrested.

“Police investigations will continue. Limpopo commissioner of police Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the members involved in the arrest following the swift recovery of the stolen vehicle.”

The suspect was due to appear in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court today.
