A fire that broke out late last night (July 18) has destroyed a storage warehouse at the Kruger National Park’s Skukuza camp, resulting in the loss of critical maintenance equipment, reports Lowvelder.

The facility housed essential infrastructure components, including spare generators, geysers and substantial quantities of electrical cabling.

SANParks spokesperson JP Louw confirmed that the warehouse is situated a considerable distance from all tourism accommodation and administrative offices.

Consequently, there was no immediate risk to guests or core operational staff and no injuries were reported.

While the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, emergency and technical teams have been deployed to the site to secure the area and assess the full extent of the damage.

Officials have warned that the loss of these assets may cause short-term disruptions to certain maintenance operations within the park.

Louw added that SANParks is committed to restoring affected operations as swiftly as possible and will provide further updates as verified information becomes available.
