Farmer arrested for speeding at 199km/h in KZN
Three more people, including a doctor, lawyer and a regional manager for a big supermarket chain were arrested for speeding.
A farmer has been arrested after he was caught travelling at 199km/h in a 120km/h zone on Friday
The arrest formed part of the #NenzaniLaEzweni operation, which officials say is being executed with precision.
MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma said the province is intensifying efforts to curb reckless driving.
“We are restoring law and order across all corners of the province. We have introduced the Average Speed-Over-Distance system in various road networks and strategically placed two cameras, one at the beginning and one at the end of a designated stretch,” he said.
He explained that the cameras record a vehicle at both points, allowing the system to calculate the time taken to travel the distance.
Three more motorists were arrested:
- A doctor, who clocked 181km/h in a Ford Ranger Raptor.
- An attorney travelling at 175km/h in a VW Golf.
- A regional manager for a major supermarket chain caught driving at 170km/h.
Duma warned that during the festive period, the RTI will have no mercy on those who endanger lives through reckless behaviour on the roads.
