Eskom warns: High risk of load-shedding this evening

Stage 2 load-shedding might be implemented at short notice.

Eskom warned on Monday evening that there is a high risk of load-shedding, as six generation units were taken offline in the past 12 hours.

According to a media statement issued by the power utility, this has placed severe strain on the power system, requiring the use of emergency reserves.

“If an additional 800MW is lost, Eskom will be compelled to implement stage 2 load-shedding at short notice.

“Efforts are underway to return seven generation units to service between the evening peak and Tuesday evening. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates will be provided at 22:00 or earlier if necessary.”
