Elderly woman raped: Young man to appear in Limpopo court

A 86-year-old woman was repeatedly raped in Dennilton, allegedly by a 21-year-old man.

A 21-year-old man is set to appear in the Moutse Magistrate’s Court tomorrow after a 86-year-old woman was raped in Kirkvorsfontein, Dennilton, allegedly by him.

The rape is said to have occurred in the early hours of Monday.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba states the victim was asleep when she was awoken by someone undressing her.

“While trying to pull her clothes down, the suspect grabbed her by the throat and strangled her. She screamed for help, but her voice wasn’t audible. The suspect repeatedly raped her throughout the night,” Ledwaba explains.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene the next day but was later traced and arrested. He has been charged with rape.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed shock over the incident, vowing that justice will be served in light of the disturbing actions.
