An elderly couple was attacked in Renosterkop in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, last night by an unidentified group of men.

Lowvelder reports that, according to John Meintjes of ACS Spartan, two people were attacked in their home, where the man was tied up and brutally beaten.

“At this stage we are not sure how they accessed the property and what the [attackers] managed to steal from the couple’s house,” Meintjes said last night.

He added that officers were on the ground looking for the suspects, and police were on the scene.

“The injured victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention,” Meintjes said.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed the attack.

No arrests have been made.
