Decomposed body found at dumping site in Randfontein

Human remains have been found at a dumping site in the West Rand, with DNA samples being sent for testing.

Randfontein police have opened an inquest after a decomposed body of a man was discovered at a dumping site in Randfontein yesterday.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed the body remains unidentified, reports Randfontein Herald.

“It cannot be confirmed whether the body is related to a missing person or a kidnapping case. DNA samples have been collected and sent for analysis,” Sibeko said.

A missing person enquiry was opened at the Mohlakeng Police Station, while a kidnapping case was registered at the Randfontein Police Station in February.

It is unclear how long the body had been at the site.

The police have not released the identity of the deceased pending further investigation and notification of next of kin. Authorities also could not confirm whether the body is that of a missing person whose image has been circulating on social media.

Investigations are ongoing.
