DA’s Steenhuisen draws flak for ANC coalition statement

Opposition parties within the DA-led Multi-Party Charter criticise after leader John Steenhuisen said a coalition is not off the table.

With the May 29 general elections a few weeks away, political parties have begun testing public opinion on coalition scenarios in the event of ANC support dropping to below 50% in the upcoming polls.

It all started with DA federal leader John Steenhuisen who drew criticism from opposition parties within the DA-led Multi-Party Charter (MPC) when he said a coalition between the country’s official opposition and the ANC was not off the table.

Steenhuisen’s statement went against the MPC members’ agreement not to co-operate with either the ANC or EFF after the May elections.
