Damaging waves expected in KZN today

Beachgoers are urged to be on high alert as waves of 4m to 6m are expected between Port Edward and Durban.

Damaging waves are expected along the KZN coastline today from about 14:00 to 23:00 due to a passing cold front.

Wave heights of 4m to 6m are expected between Port Edward and Durban.

The public is urged to avoid coastal areas and beaches during the warning period, follow evacuation instructions from local authorities and monitor weather updates and warnings.

In the interim, people should secure their homes and belongings, avoid going out to sea in small boats and stay away from the water.

Damaging waves of this calibre may cause coastal erosion and flooding, difficulties for marine activities and coastal travel and an increased risk of rip currents and rough seas.
