Dagga worth R1m seized in Mpumalanga

A man made a run for it after police found almost 50 bags of dagga in his bakkie between eMalahleni and Bethal.

A routine patrol by Witbank police turned into a major drug bust as a haul of dagga worth R1m was confiscated yesterday.

This breakthrough follows the vigilant police officers who spotted a gold Toyota Hilux bakkie carrying several large plastic-wrapped bags between eMalahleni and Bethal on the R544, reports Witbank News.

When the driver of the bakkie realised he was spotted, he stopped and ran away.

A search of the bakkie revealed 46 large bags of compressed dagga. Both the vehicle and the dagga were seized, as they were involved in the commission of a crime.

Witbank Police are currently following up leads, and arrests are expected soon.

Witbank police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall says anyone with information that may assist the police investigation is urged to contact the Witbank police on 079 891 5570, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit information anonymously through the MySAPS mobile application.
