Corruption and dealing in drugs: Cop arrested at George court
A court orderly who was arrested at his workplace this morning is due to appear in court tomorrow.
The Hawks arrested a 34-year-old police constable at the George Magistrate’s Court earlier today, on charges of corruption and dealing in drugs.
George Herald reports that the suspect works as a court orderly.
According to Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, information was received that from 2022 to date, a SAPS member who works at the George Magistrate’s Court was dealing in drugs and involved in corrupt activities.
The suspect was allegedly receiving money for his services and smuggling drugs into the court cells for prisoners.
During the arrest, 11 mandrax tablets, one packet of cannabis and R300 gratification were found in his possession.
The suspect is expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
