The community of Mayfield Park in Johannesburg recently paid their respects to a security officer who was killed in the line of duty at an ATM bombing.

The community of Mayfield Park in Johannesburg recently came together to honour a security officer who was killed during an ATM bombing in the area earlier this week.

Stephanus Albertus Klopper, known as Bertie, was a Fox Security officer killed in the line of duty while attending the crime scene of an ATM bombing in Mayfield Park on Tuesday.

A memorial was held for him on the same day when the community, his family and friends gathered at the Engen garage in Mayfield Park to honour Klopper’s memory.

He grew up in Kibler Park and has always been an active resident in his community.

Hennie Els, a member of the Kliprivierberg Civic Association, only had good things to say about Klopper.

“Kibler Park is mourning a great man and a great security officer. Bertie was always willing to fearlessly attend crime scenes and to protect those in need,” Els said.

“He may be gone, but will never be forgotten. A father, brother, friend and hero. Bertie’s memorial was a touching event that brought the community together to honour one of its fallen heroes.”

Served with distinction

Klopper was a beloved member of the Fox Security family where he served with distinction and was admired for his exemplary work ethic and compassionate nature.

Fox Security operations director, Francois Janse expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying, “We are devastated by the tragic loss of Bertie. He was an outstanding officer who dedicated his life to ensuring the safety and security of others. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

The incident is currently under investigation by local law enforcement. Fox Security is cooperating fully with authorities to ensure that justice is served and to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Fox Security extended its heartfelt gratitude to the community for the outpouring of support and solidarity. “In this time of grief, the unity and compassion shown by friends, neighbours, and colleagues have been a source of comfort and strength,” said Janse.

“As we mourn the loss of Bertie, we also honour his legacy of bravery and dedication. He will forever be remembered as a guardian of our safety and a symbol of the noble spirit that defines Fox Security.”
