Child among 2 dead in Ekurhuleni crash
An alleged drunk driver, who was reportedly found with an alcohol reading of 0.64, has been arrested following a crash near Olifantsfontein.
A child was among two people killed in a crash at the intersection of Olifantsfontein Road and South View today., reports Kempton Express.
“It is alleged that a 30-year-old male driver of an Audi, who was under the influence of alcohol, collided head-on with a Toyota Avanza,” said Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Thabiso Makgato.
A young girl, believed to be between 10 and 11 years old, and the driver of the Avanza sustained fatal injuries. Both were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
“A 16-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to Tembisa Tertiary Hospital for urgent medical treatment,” added Makgato.
He said officers conducted an alcohol test on the Audi driver, which returned a reading of 0.64.
The driver was arrested at the scene and is expected to face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, culpable homicide and fleeing the scene.
