Calls for justice at funeral of Limpopo girl (11)

The girl’s body was found hanging from a tree a day after she set out to sell tomatoes and went missing.

Community leaders and police have appealed to residents in Ramantsha to help catch those responsible for the brutal death of Adivhaho Mulamavu (11), who was murdered and possibly raped in September.

Mulamavu was laid to rest at the Ramantsha cemetery on September 22.

Speaker of the Thulamela Municipality Fhulufhelo Mutheiwana said the only way for the police to apprehend her attacker(s), is for residents to provide the police with information.

“Fighting crime is not the duty of the police alone, but a collective task of both the police and the community. If you want to see the police make a breakthrough in this case, give them information,” she said.

The principal of Munau Primary School, Peter Nematandani, urged residents to assist the family in covering the funeral costs. He also reached out to businesspeople for support.

Businessman Kaizer Marindi of Marindi Funerals offered to sponsor the funeral costs.

Family struggling with daughter’s brutal death

According to the girl’s grandmother Anikie Mulamavu, the Grade 6 learner from Munau Primary School set out at around 09:00 on September 15 to go and sell tomatoes. She never returned and could not be located when her family searched for her.

They received news of her death the following day after someone discovered her body hanging from a tree in a nearby maize field, the tomatoes she wanted to sell lying next to her body.

“She did not deserve to die like this. The incident has disturbed every member of the family and it is difficult for us to accept the loss,” said Mulamavu.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Vuledzani Dathi said the girl’s death was caused by several stab wounds. They are also investigating the possibility that she was raped before her death.

He urged the community to come forward with information that can assist them with their murder and rape investigation.
