Bus carrying high school learners catches fire on the R80 highway

Two female students were transported to hospital after a bus carrying 62 high school learners caught fire in Pretoria yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred on the R80 Northbound at Theo Martins Poort.

The pupils were able to get out of the bus in time, and firefighters extinguished the fire, says Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso.

Two female pupils were transported to 1 Military Hospital, he adds. Their ages are unknown.

“The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.”
