Bricklayer dies after wall collapse in White River
An elderly man passed away today after a wall collapsed at a construction site, burying him under rubble as three others managed to escape unharmed.
A man in his early 70s died this morning when a wall he was working on collapsed. The incident happened near the driver’s licence testing centre in White River, Mpumalanga.
Lowvelder reports that according to an eyewitness, a bricklayer was working alongside three other men on a construction project. The reason the wall collapsed remains unclear.
While the three other workers managed to escape unharmed, the victim was unable to get away and was buried under the rubble.
Mbombela Fire and Rescue responded swiftly to the scene to conduct a recovery operation, however, paramedics declared the man dead on arrival. Police and emergency personnel were called to the scene to assess the situation.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo stated that authorities are currently on-site and more information will be shared at a later stage.
