Brakpan SAPS sergeant suspected of family shooting
Police are investigating after multiple family members were shot, allegedly by a policeman who turned his weapon on his family.
A woman was killed and four others, including two children, were injured in a shooting at a home in Brakpan North in Ekurhuleni last night.
Brakpan Herald reports that the suspect is allegedly the woman’s husband and a police sergeant stationed at Brakpan SAPS.
According to reports, local SAPS officers were on duty attending to complaints when, at around 20:15, they were alerted to a shooting at an address along McMillan Avenue.
They went to the given address, where they were met by a member from a private security company.
When entering the premises, officers discovered that three women had been shot. One of the victims was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
She was later identified as the wife of a police sergeant stationed at Brakpan SAPS. The other two women, the wife’s mother and a domestic worker, both sustained gunshot wounds.
In addition, two minor siblings, aged 15 and 13, were also shot.
It is alleged that all the victims were shot by the sergeant, who was not in the house when police arrived.
The wife is believed to have sustained three gunshot wounds. Her body was found in the bedroom, while the other women were found in the passage.
After being shot, the children fled the scene and sought help at a nearby house on Walkden Street.
All injured victims were transported to different hospitals for medical treatment.
Brakpan Herald approached SAPS for comment and was referred to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, who had not provided comment at the time of publishing.
No further information was available at the time of publishing.
