Body of missing elderly woman found tied up in KZN

Police say she may have been strangled before her body was dumped.

The police in Mtubatuba are investigating a case of murder after an elderly woman who had been reported missing was found dead, with her hands and feet tied with wire.

Rosanna Pillay (75) was found by her grandson on July 30 in a sewerage drain in Riverview after she had been reported missing earlier.

Police spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa said it is possible that Pillay may have been strangled by an unknown suspect, but no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Hlabisa urged anyone with information about Pillay’s murder to report this to the police in Mtubatuba.

“We plead with people and witnesses of such crimes to immediately report cases to the police so swift action can be taken,” said Hlabisa.

Pillay, who leaves behind three children, grandchildren and other relatives as well as friends, will be laid to rest today.
