Armed robbery at Bryanston jewellery story

Police are on the hunt for a group of armed men who robbed a jewellery store at a shopping centre yesterday.

Randburg police have confirmed that an armed robbery took place at Bryanston Jewellers yesterday afternoon.

According to police, a group of armed men stormed the store and smashed display glass at 14:00.

The suspects made off with an unknown amount of jewellery, escaping while firing numerous shots.

They fled Winifred Mandela Precinct (formerly Nicolway Shopping Centre) in a red Nissan and grey Hyundai sedan.

No injuries were reported and the suspects are still at large.

An employee at the centre said they saw about eight people with guns. “I am not sure how long it took… Maybe about five minutes. Shots were fired as they were leaving.”

Jewellery stores targeted

This is not the first time jewellery stores have been targeted in the area.

In May 2015, a different jewellery shop was targeted and, in July the same year, there was an attempted robbery at Nicolway Mall.

In August 2016, suspects broke into the store by smashing a window, and in August 2020, six men broke into another jewellery store in the same centre by breaking the display window.
