Armed men bomb ATM, rob shop and driver at Soshanguve garage

No arrests have been made following an ATM bombing and garage shop robbery.

An ATM was bombed and a shop was robbed early yesterday morning at the Sasol garage in Soshanguve Extension 2.

Soshanguve is located about 30km north of Pretoria.

According to SAPS Warrant Officer Johan Van Dyk, a group of seven men armed with handguns and rifles arrived at the garage in a white Toyota Quantum at 02:30.

He says the robbers, wearing masks, allegedly pretended to refuel their car, held the petrol attendant at gunpoint and ordered her to remain silent.

“They proceeded to the shop, ordered staff out of the shop, and went to the Capitec ATM.”

Van Dyk says a big explosion was heard.

The shop, drop safe and ATM were robbed, and the armed men got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Van Dyk says a newspaper delivery driver, who was on the scene in a white Toyota bakkie, was also held up at gunpoint.

“The suspects robbed him of his firearm, wallet [containing] an undisclosed amount of cash, bank cards, a Hisense cellphone, and his firearm licence.”
