Alleged cash-in-transit robbers to appear in Pretoria courts

An investigation led to the arrest of three alleged cash-in-transit robbers who now face numerous charges, including the possession of hijacked vehicles.

Three suspected cash-in-transit robbers arrested on Tuesday are due to appear in the Pretoria North and Temba Magistrate’s Courts tomorrow.

According to Colonel Katlego Mogale, the spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), the suspects face charges relating to transit robbery, possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, and possession of hijacked motor vehicles.

Mogale says the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-driven, multi-disciplinary operation by members of the Tactical Operations Management Section in collaboration with Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Klipgat, and Pretoria North Local Criminal Records Centre.

The suspects, aged 69, 39 and 37, were arrested at various locations around Makapanstad.

Mogale says the team also recovered a rifle with its serial number filed off, and two vehicles – a white Peugeot and a silver Audi A4 – which are thought to have been used in criminal activities.

“The firearm will be sent for ballistics testing to ascertain its involvement in other crimes in the Pretoria area,” says Mogale.

He says the suspects have been identified as being sought for cases in Akasia and Makapanstad.

“The Hawks is not ruling out the possibility of more suspects being arrested. The investigation is continuing.”
